Preparing for your Christmas Tree Farm Session

It's nearly that magical time of year again. Christmas sessions are my absolute favourite and the beginning of the festive season for me - even in November! This is the fifth year I have hosted sessions at Salisbury Christmas Trees, a local Christmas Tree Farm in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside near Salisbury.

Our Christmas Tree Farm Sessions are all about enjoying the beautiful setting and capturing the love and connection within your family.

What to wear for your Christmas Tree Farm Session

This is a great time to start feeling festive! Christmas colours and patterns look great at the Christmas Tree Farm and will be perfect for creating your Christmas cards this year.

As the tree farm is mainly green, it's best to contrast with this and stand out beautifully rather than clash. Red looks amazing (and is also wonderfully festive). Other colours such as darker blues and maroons also work well. For a classic, lighter touch, neutrals look beautiful too.

A wintry feel is a great for Christmas Tree Farm sessions. Feel free to bring hats and scarves to give your images a more festive look.

The field has some long grass (which may be wet depending on the weather) and the ground is soft and uneven. Suitable footwear is essential!

It's also a great idea to follow some basic principles for dressing for your family photo session.

- Choose your outfits first to make sure that you have something you feel happy and confident wearing. It's so much easier to find outfits to co-ordinate the kids with you rather than the other way around!

- I recommend choosing 2-3 complementary colours and working them into each person's outfit. Accessories are a great, easy way to add a pop of colour!

- Don't be afraid of patterns. Checks or knitted patterns look festive and a great to add texture and interest. However, avoid largo logos or character images as these can be distracting and will date your photos.

- A great tip when planning your outfits is to lay everything out on the floor and take a photo with your phone. Try to notice if anyone clashes or stands out.

What to do

The sessions take place on private property. Please respect the farm and it's beautiful trees which take many years to grow.

Car parking will be signed at the bottom of the field. Please arrive around 5 minutes prior to your booked session time and make the short walk up the grass field to where you will see the taller trees. Please wait by the sign until I have finished the previous session and come to collect you.

Please bring any essentials with you from the car - the field is fine for sturdy buggies.

Dogs are welcome on leads. Please pick up after your dog.

What to expect

Although we only have 25 minutes together, it will be plenty of time to explore the beautiful trees. There is no 'set' as such. I will guide you to explore different areas of the farm and use some props and prompts to capture beautiful images of your family having fun together. There will be a mixture of smiling for the camera and candid images and there will be lots to keep children engaged. Your job is just to have fun with your family!

After your session

Your gallery will be available online within a week of your session. You will receive an email link and password to access and view your gallery images. Digital download options, professional prints and gifts will be available to order through your online gallery. Imagine getting all your Christmas gifts done in November!
